Ben Zhou opened Bybit in 2018. The operating company, Bybit Fintech Limited, is in Dubai. The first product was perpetual contracts. Spot came later, and with it a TRON USDT rail. By 2026 the book was among the largest centralized exchanges by spot volume.
In February 2025 attackers took about $1.5 billion from a Bybit cold wallet, mostly ether. It was the largest crypto theft on record. The exchange said it would fill the hole from its own reserves and from partners.
