USDT on TRON
What USDT transfers actually spend
A USDT send on TRON is a TRC20 contract call. It burns Energy (and needs Bandwidth). When Energy is short, the fee jumps or the call fails.
Why USDT is not a free TRX send
Native TRX transfers are cheap. USDT goes through a smart contract, so the network meters the work in Energy. Empty Energy means the chain burns TRX from the account, or stops with FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY.
How TRON prices a USDT transfer
USDT on TRON is Tether’s TRC20 contract (TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t), not a native TRX move. The chain meters that contract call in Energy. If the sending account has Energy, the call spends it. If Energy is empty, TRON burns TRX at the network Energy fee (getEnergyFee, commonly 100 sun per Energy; 1 TRX = 1,000,000 sun). If the remaining Energy and the burn still cannot finish the call, the status is FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY and the USDT stays in the wallet.
How much Energy is typical
A first USDT receive or transfer often needs more Energy than a later send on an address that already holds USDT. Use Rent Energy for a live estimate before you pay.
| What you send | Energy used (typical) | Burn if Energy is empty |
|---|---|---|
| Native TRX transfer | None for the transfer itself | Bandwidth only — a few hundred sun if you have no free Bandwidth |
| USDT, receiver already holds USDT | ~65,000 Energy | 65,000 × 100 sun = 6.5 TRX |
| USDT, first time that address holds USDT | ~131,000 Energy | 131,000 × 100 sun = 13.1 TRX |
Sources: TRON meters smart-contract work in Energy; insufficient Energy burns TRX at getEnergyFee (sun per Energy). Tether USDT on TRON is TRC20. 65,000 / 131,000 are the same packages the Rent Energy estimator uses. The fee parameter can move — always re-check the live quote.
Worked numbers for one USDT send
Burn TRX = Energy used × Energy fee ÷ 1,000,000. Example: a later USDT send uses about 65,000 Energy. At 100 sun per Energy that is 6,500,000 sun = 6.5 TRX taken from the sender if the Energy bucket is empty. A first USDT on the receiver is about 131,000 Energy = 13.1 TRX. The USDT amount (10 or 10,000) barely changes Energy — creating the receiver’s USDT slot does. Rent Energy quotes a lower TRX price for the same Energy; read the live rent vs burn line before you pay.
Energy is not Bandwidth
A USDT call needs both. Energy pays for contract execution. Bandwidth pays to put the transaction on chain. Energy rental does not add Bandwidth. A free daily Bandwidth quota covers many small sends; if that quota is gone, the chain burns a little TRX for Bandwidth even when Energy is rented.
Burn vs rent on the same send
Both pay for the same 65,000 or 131,000 Energy. Burning takes TRX from the sending wallet at the network fee. Renting buys a temporary delegation to that public sender. Repeat sends the same day often fit in one longer rental.
- Empty Energy: about 6.5 TRX (later USDT) or 13.1 TRX (first USDT) at 100 sun / Energy.
- Rent Energy: live 1H quote for 65,000 or 131,000 Energy — compare it with the burn line on that page.
Send USDT without a surprise fee
- Check whether the receiver already holds USDT. First receive ≈ 131,000 Energy; later send ≈ 65,000.
- Open the sending wallet and read Energy remaining. Far below those numbers means a burn or FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY.
- Open Rent Energy, paste the public sender (not the USDT receiver), and pick 65,000 or 131,000.
- Read rent TRX vs burn TRX. Pay rental if it is cheaper or you need the send to go through now.
- Wait until the order shows delegated, then send the USDT from your wallet. Confirm Bandwidth if it still fails.
Keep the fee predictable
Rent Energy to the public address that will make the call, pay in TRX, wait for delegation, then send USDT. Same product rate on every plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does every USDT transfer need the same Energy?
No. First-time activation and later transfers differ. Always check a fresh estimate for the address you care about.
Can I rent for someone else?
Yes. You rent to the public sending wallet — the address that will execute the USDT call. That address does not share a private key with tronscope.io.
What if I still see FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY?
Confirm Energy landed on the right address, the quote amount covers the call, and Bandwidth is available. Then retry the transfer.
Does sending more USDT cost more Energy?
Usually no. The contract work is almost the same for 10 USDT or 10,000. The jump is first activation on the receiver (~131,000) versus a later send (~65,000).
Can I send USDT with zero Energy?
Only if the sender has enough TRX for the burn (about 6.5 or 13.1 TRX at 100 sun / Energy) and enough Bandwidth. If TRX is also short, the call fails with FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY and the USDT stays put.
Where do 65,000 and 131,000 come from?
They are the published TRC20 USDT Energy packages used on Rent Energy: ~65,000 when the receiver already holds USDT, ~131,000 for a first USDT on that address (extra storage). Always confirm with a live estimate; contract or network changes can move the number.
