FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY
Your USDT send stopped cold
The wallet returned FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY. Not a wrong address. The account simply ran out of Energy mid-call.
What that status actually means
TRON meters contract work in Energy. A USDT transfer is a TRC20 contract call. When Energy hits zero before the call finishes, the chain aborts and stamps FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY. The tokens stay put; you may still have spent a little TRX on the attempt.
Why it shows up so often
New wallets, empty Energy, or a second transfer right after the first. Staking TRX can grow Energy over time. Most people do not wait. They rent Energy for the address that needs to send, then try again.
Why the chain stops mid-call
TRON runs the USDT TRC20 transfer() as a smart-contract call. Energy is deducted as the call executes. When the account’s Energy (plus any TRX the chain is allowed to burn at getEnergyFee) cannot finish the remaining work, the virtual machine aborts. The receipt status is FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY. State changes from that call are reverted, so the USDT balance does not move. Energy already consumed and a small Bandwidth/TRX fee for broadcasting the attempt are not refunded.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY | The USDT contract ran out of Energy. Tokens did not leave. | Rent Energy to the sender, then retry the same amount. |
| Wrong address or REVERT | Not an Energy shortage. The call was rejected or sent elsewhere. | Read the transaction. Do not rent Energy until the status is OUT_OF_ENERGY. |
| Bandwidth / OUT_OF_BANDWIDTH | The transaction could not be packed. Energy rental does not fix this. | Wait for free Bandwidth or hold a little extra TRX for Bandwidth burn. |
What the failed call usually cost
The USDT stays in the wallet. You may still have paid a small TRX fee for the aborted contract call. Energy used before the abort is gone. Rent enough Energy for a full USDT call (about 65,000 if the receiver already holds USDT), then resubmit the same transfer.
Example: the sender had 12,000 Energy and tried a later USDT send (~65,000 Energy). The call dies around 12,000, the USDT stays, and you may still have paid a fraction of a TRX to broadcast. Rent 65,000 Energy (or 131,000 if the receiver has never held USDT). At 100 sun / Energy the avoided burn is 6.5 TRX or 13.1 TRX — compare that with the live rental quote.
How much Energy to rent before you retry
Rent to the public sending address, not the USDT receiver. Use the same packages as the fee guide.
| What you send | Energy used (typical) | Burn if Energy is empty |
|---|---|---|
| USDT, receiver already holds USDT | ~65,000 Energy | 65,000 × 100 sun = 6.5 TRX |
| USDT, first time that address holds USDT | ~131,000 Energy | 131,000 × 100 sun = 13.1 TRX |
Sources: TRON meters smart-contract work in Energy; insufficient Energy burns TRX at getEnergyFee (sun per Energy). Tether USDT on TRON is TRC20. 65,000 / 131,000 are the same packages the Rent Energy estimator uses. The fee parameter can move — always re-check the live quote.
Rent Energy, then retry
On tronscope.io you pick the public address that should hold the rented Energy, get a quote in TRX, pay, and wait for delegation. No private key. Just Energy for the transfer you already meant to make.
After Energy lands
Once the rented Energy sits on the address, resubmit the same USDT transfer from your wallet. If the amount and path match what you estimated, the call should go through instead of failing out of Energy again.
Diagnose it in six steps
- Open the failed transaction and confirm the status is FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY, not a wrong address.
- Check the sending wallet: Energy remaining should be near zero or far below ~65,000.
- Rent Energy to that same public sender — not the receiver.
- Wait until the order shows delegated, then retry the identical USDT amount from your wallet.
- If it still fails, check Bandwidth. Energy rental does not add Bandwidth.
- If the receiver has never held USDT, rent ~131,000 Energy, not 65,000, then retry.
Frequently Asked Questions
Did my USDT leave the wallet?
Usually no. FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY aborts the contract call. The tokens stay put. You may still have paid a small TRX fee for the attempt.
Which address should get rented Energy?
The public address that must execute the USDT call, often the sender. On tronscope.io you choose that address when you rent.
Will rental fix Bandwidth too?
No. Energy rental covers Energy only. A transfer also needs Bandwidth. If Bandwidth is missing, the send can still fail.
Is FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY a scam or a stolen transfer?
No. It is a protocol abort. The USDT does not leave. You may have spent a little TRX/Energy on the attempt. Confirm the txid on the explorer, then rent Energy to the same sender.
I already hold TRX. Why did it still fail?
TRX in the wallet is not Energy until it is burned or you rent/stake. A small TRX balance can pay Bandwidth and still be short of the 6.5–13.1 TRX burn for a full USDT call. Rent Energy or keep enough TRX for the full burn.
Can I stake TRX instead of renting?
Yes, but staking grows your own Energy over time and locks TRX. Rental delegates Energy for a quoted window so the retry can go out now. Use staking when you send often for weeks; use rental for a failed send you need to finish today.
