Burn TRX or rent Energy

Both pay for contract work on TRON. Burning takes TRX straight from the account. Renting buys a temporary Energy delegation, often cheaper when you move USDT often.

What burning does

If an account lacks Energy, TRON burns TRX to cover the contract call. The burn amount moves with network parameters and how empty the Energy bucket is.

What rental does

You pay a quoted TRX price for Energy delegated to a public address for a set duration. The transfer can complete without draining as much TRX from the sending wallet.

When rental usually wins

Repeated USDT sends, thin Energy balances, and FAILED-OUT_OF_ENERGY retries. Compare the live rental quote with the burn estimate on the Energy page before you pay.

A worked USDT example

A TRC20 USDT transfer is a contract call. When the receiver already holds USDT, the call often uses about 65,000 Energy. A first receive is about 131,000. Burn TRX = Energy × getEnergyFee ÷ 1,000,000. At the common 100 sun / Energy fee that is 6.5 TRX or 13.1 TRX. Check Rent Energy for today’s rental quote.

Sources: TRON Energy is consumed by smart-contract execution; TRC20 USDT is a contract call, not a native TRX transfer. Always compare the live rent vs burn line on the Energy page before you pay.

How to choose on a real send

  1. Open Rent Energy and paste the public sending address.
  2. Pick 65,000 Energy for a later USDT send, or ~130,000 if the receiver has never held USDT.
  3. Read rent TRX vs burn TRX on the quote. Pay rental only if it is cheaper or you need the send to go through now.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is rental always cheaper?

Not always. Rates move. Check the side-by-side quote on Rent Energy for the amount you need.

Does burning still happen with rental?

If rented Energy covers the call, you avoid the large burn. Small fees or Bandwidth costs can still apply.

Where do I compare numbers?

Open Rent Energy, set the address and Energy amount, and read rent vs burn on the quote panel.
